House Sitting Referrals

I have had opportunities to watch houses and care for pets and have been fortunate to receive some kind words:

Jim and Linda saved the day for us house sitting our home at the beach in Baja Sur and taking care of two of our 6 dogs.  Our home requires a LOT of daily and weekly upkeep as it also has two rentals on site.  The list of to do’s was 3 pages long and Jim and Linda still took their own diligent notes on two occasions when we did a walk through prior to leaving and asked questions about things that we had not even thought of.  Jim being fluent in espanol was a huge plus also when any workers had questions or major items needed repair.  We were gone for 7 weeks and they were completely flexible on our return dates which took so much pressure off our return trip.

They sent us photos of our two dogs throughout their stay, who are our children, and took them to the beach almost daily which was more than we were ever able to do.  I think our dogs were sad when we got home just a little.  Our home was in even better shape than when we left it and handled getting a new locking system for our front gate that went out while we were gone.

Jim saved us again while on our trip when we needed some very important paperwork that was in Spanish scanned to our attorney as he was able to decipher what the documents were. We had been very reluctant to leave our home and dogs for quite a few reasons but having Jim and Linda there completely changed our comfort level and let us handle what we needed to in the US without one more added worry.  Linda maintained our garden which is pretty large and the plants on our entire property which is extensive.  Her knowledge as a landscape designer was a huge plus for this.

We would definitely use Jim and Linda again in a heartbeat and refer them to friends which we do not normally do.  My husband and I would highly recommend them for a worry free housesit and they are just awesome people all around.

Thank you for allowing me to submit a review of Jim Ranney’s housesitting gig.
Jim stayed at our home from August 29 to September 30th, 2016
Our home is located in Southern Baja California Mexico – on the Tropic of Cancer – on the Pacific Ocean in a small pueblo of Todos Santos.  We have 2 energetic 1-year old Mexican Mutts (Brie and Butch).
Our home was constructed in 1935 and originally was the outdoor movie theater.  We have since remodeled the home.
Review:  Jim Ranney gets a 5 STAR ++++ Review!!
We met with Jim a few days prior so we could show him around our town and get him acquainted with where to buy food, go to yoga, walk the beaches, go surfing, running, hiking  and meet our doggies, etc. etc.
During the “wet” season Southern Baja gets rain and wind and an occasional hurricane.  To our dismay and surprise, we had a hurricane in the first week of Jim’s house/dog sitting position.  Hurricane Newton paid us a visit with wind and rain.  Thankfully it was only a Category 2!!  Jim was prepared – he secured everything – the back patio, windows, doors, garden art, pillows, cushions etc. etc.
Of course, we were concerned but felt reassured by Jim that all would be well.  After the hurricane, Jim contacted us to let us know that home and pooches were fine.  AND he walked the dogs twice a day!!! They require a lot of exercise.  Also Jim made a video of potential areas of concern where water entered the home.  Not to mention Jim did a super job of getting the gardener, housekeeper to come in and set things right.  Jim actually cleaned up for the gardener and housekeeper so their load would be less.  Often times Jim sent us photos and emails relating stories of how the home was doing post-hurricane  and let us know how Butch and Brie were doing.  Brie to our amazement (we were told she was spayed) went into heat the last week of Jim’s stay!  So on top of everything else he had to make sure Brie was safe from any and all male dogs.
Jim also had the use of our car.  The car was clean and no damage!
Jim went above and beyond his call of duty.  When we returned our home was spotless, gardens looking great, puppy dogs wagging their tails.
We cannot thank him enough for a job well done!!!  I’m sure it was way more than what he ever bargained for.  He’s a shining star in our book!!
Very responsible, conscientious, thoughtful and overall great guy!!!

Jim has been one of my best guest. That’s not only because after 3 weeks he cleaned the apartment thoroughly and also took care of it as he was in his own home. Besides this, he is a really kind man. He is very interested about the languages and our basque culture which makes him have a very interesting conversations. I hope to see you again Jim, best wishes for you and your family and come back when you want to Basque Country! You`ll be always welcome! Gero arte eta besarkada bat!
